Angelique 烨 Zhou
Angelique is a curious human with a passion for theatre performance. Born and raised in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia) to immigrants. Her practice looks deeply into physical modalities such as the Suzuki Method of actors’ training. Her interests lie in honest storytelling from less considered perspectives.
Angelique has trained with Matthew Crosby and is an associate artist of The Thursday Group. In 2023, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Theatre) at the Victorian College of the Arts (University of Melbourne) and is a recipient of the Lionel Gell Foundation Scholarship (2022) as well as the Paul & Donna Dainty VCA Award (2023). In 2020, she was selected to perform her VCE monologue of Private Peaceful in the Theatre Studies Top Class at the Art Centre.
Angelique’s professional works include various roving performances with Born in a Taxi and Brunswick East Entertainment Festival. Since 2022, she has worked closely with The Thursday Group in their slow-burn laboratory practice laboratory, exploring the Suzuki Training and Grotowski techniques. Additionally, she has collaborated with dancing poet Taka Takiguchi in his 2023 production Humans-in-Between, exploring techniques of moving language. Her solo works include The Poet, shadow puppets of Chang E and Rising Son, all of which explores movement from large to small spaces.
